What a lovely relaxed and satisfying evening I had with my Mother. From the short ferry ride from Circular Quay to Hayes Street Wharf at Neutral Bay, the leisurely walk up to the restaurant and then the welcoming way we were greeted at the door and escorted to our table. Ahhhhhh.
We started with the Tom Yum Kung to share. It’s a fantastic tangy prawn soup with mushrooms and a complex lingering flavour of lemongrass and lime leaves with a touch of chilli. It also had a subtle taste of galangal which, I believe, is related to the ginger family. I really could have had two servings of the soup to myself but instead we went forward and shared the Seafood Pad Thai and the Red Curry Duck with steamed rice.
The Seafood Pad Thai had everything but what made it memorable was the large tender fish pieces in a light batter. There was also a few mussels, prawns, and lovely calamari curls. These were all mixed in with the typical Pad Thai noodles and with a squeeze of lemon juice over the top was really enjoyable.
The Red Curry Duck is always a treat in my dining experiences and this was no exception. A hint of spice and a great variety of really delicious vegetables made me savour it to the last grain of sauce soaked rice. I’ll definitely have it again.
I like my chilli mild to medium and because Ta Ta Thai has a menu from central Thailand (I asked) it was perfect.
The ambience of the place is very relaxed, but a little noisy as everyone was having a great time. The customer turnover was constant with quite a few take-aways being ordered. What a great way to prepare a meal – ring ahead from the Quay and it’s ready to go as you walk past. I’d move to Neutral Bay just for this convenience.
PS. I went into the kitchen to thank the staff and had my photo taken with them.
